Il Punto Jazz Mondays were introduced tonight with Victor Prieto on accordion
and Jorge Roeder on bass. This was the first of a weekly Monday jazz series, presented
by RobertaOnTheArts.com in collaboration with Jazzitalia.net, that includes an authentic two-course Italian pasta dinner,
wine, live music, and an opportunity to meet New York dining and jazz enthusiasts
who come together in Il Punto's elegant private room with its wooden arches and
custom oak bar. The acoustics are amazing, and microphones are not needed, giving
the sound a natural melodic resonance.
Victor Prieto is a renowned jazz accordionist from Spain, and Jorge Roeder is a
Peruvian bass player, who travels on tour with Victor to Festivals and Clubs. Victor's
musical program is listed above. I especially loved Piazzolla's "Libertango" and
Victor's "Six Note Samba". The two sets ranged from straight jazz, to Argentine
tangos, to Brazilian sambas. Both Victor and Jorge have warm personalities, and
the audience was fully drawn into their musical magic. For a first night of a new
series, attendance was excellent. Seating is limited in this intimate space, and
early reservations are suggested.
Il Punto Ristorante's Chef Michele Orsino has designed a Jazz night menu with choices
of three Appetizers, such as Calamari Fritti in Tomato Sauce, choices of three fresh
pastas, such as Fusilli Lucani con Seppioline Ripiene, with Stuffed Baby Squid in
Tomato Sauce, and red or white wine by the glass. Of course, guests are welcome
to order from the restaurant's richly varied, main menu as well. Owner Tony, and
Manager, Joe, take excellent care of their patrons, and tonight's guests are already
planning to return each week, both for food and music. Call 212.244.0088, and reserve
a table at Il Punto Ristorante for the upcoming March Jazz Mondays, listed below.
