The New Yorker Hotel
The New Yorker Hotel is a historical,
first-class, landmark hotel.
481 Eighth Avenue
New York, NY 10001
(866) 800-3088

US and Canada: 1-866-800-3088

The New Yorker Hotel gave itself a grand, red-carpet party for its 80th Anniversary, with 1930's style live music, featuring Vince Giordano's Nighthawks, 1930's show girls, cigar girls, elevator operator, and a swinging cabaret trio. About 400 guests dined on a lavish buffet of hors d'oeuvres and sushi, and the Open Bar was hopping. Photos of The New Yorker Hotel's 1930's jazzy heydays were on display, and The Grand Ballroom was filled with guests reveling and dancing, wining and dining. The Crystal Ballroom was decorated with the same burgundy and feathers, and the two cabaret singers and pianist were surrounded by silver dessert trays and hot coffee. This was an event not to be missed.

Vince Giordano's Nighthawks included: Andy Stein on violin, phono fiddle, and baritone sax, Alex Norris on trumpet, Jon-Erik Kellso on trumpet, Jim Fryer on trombone, Dan Block on sax and clarinet, Mark Lopeman on sax and clarinet, Dan Levinson on sax and clarinet, Peter Yarin on piano, Ken Salvo on guitar and banjo, Arnie Kinsella on drums and vibes, and Vince Giordano on tuba, bass, bas sax, and vocals. Some of the 1930's ballads they played were: "Lady in Red", "It Had To Be You", "I Got Rhythm", "Cheek To Cheek", "Happy Days Are Here Again", "Don't Be That Way", "Besame Mucho", "Irving Berlin Waltz Medley", "Sweet Georgia Brown", and "Moonlight, The Stars and You". Vince Giordano's Nighthawks lit up the Crystal Ballroom with swinging, scintillating, red hot 1930's Big Band Jazz.

Sylvia Lima, The New Yorker's General Manager, greeted the guests with news about the Hotel's recent and total restoration, and she invited everybody to take a tour. Aurora Chiarella, The New Yorker's Sales Manager, was the gracious tour host. Ms. Lima also introduced Reverend In Jin Moon, the CEO of Manhattan Center and President and CEO of H.S.A.-U.W.C., as well as Senior Pastor of the Unification Church Congregation nationwide. Reverend In Jin Moon spoke very highly of Sylvia Lima's professional background and management career at The New Yorker, and Reverend In Jin Moon welcomed the guests, as well. Collaborating with The New Yorker on the 80th Anniversary Event was the Deer Park, NY www.EventKings.com, a renowned party panning team that helped assure tonight's obvious success. Each party guest took home a generous gift bag, with an engraved and illustrated 80th Anniversary paper weight, a New Yorker Hotel mug (decorated with the lobby's NYC mural), and New Yorker Hotel and Manhattan Center brochures.

The New Yorker's $70 million renovation took two years to complete, and now its modern, art deco design fills its lobby, meeting spaces, event rooms, 912 guest rooms, and tower suites. Many rooms have terraces, and all have spectacular City views. Book a room at The New Yorker Hotel to experience their recent restoration, and be sure to stop by the fun, 24-hour, retro Tick Tock Diner, or dine at Cooper's Tavern for contemporary American cuisine.

Interview with Spike Wilner at The Small: "Jazz is a music of communication. No need for words - just musical gestures. Great jazz musicians don't need cues or charts. Real jazz is the spontaneous moment of creation...the foundation of jazz is the blues and romance and joy. Without those elements, no jazz...Jazz is a feeling - it's not vague." (Achille Brunazzi)
