The city of Poreč will again this summer become a capital
of jazz, hosting some of the most important names of the international jazz scene.
The second edition of Valamar Jazz Festival will be held on seven different locations
in Poreč, from July 6 to July 9, 2011, run by the artistic director, our renowned
musician Tamara Obrovac. The sounds of live jazz will follow the audience of Valamar
Jazz Festival and the guests of Poreč through the narrow, charming city streets
and on the terraces of coffee bars, while jam sessions will be held in the elegant
garden of the unique Villa Polesini.
The first evening of the main program, on July 7, 2011, will take place in
the Euphrasian Basilica, the most beautiful integrally preserved monument from the
sixth century, which has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The unique
sacral setting of the basilica will host one of the leading European jazz artists,
Richard Galliano, and his Piazzola Forever Septet. Their concert will
be preceded by Tamara Obrovac and her Transhistria ensemble in cooperation
with the Czech string quartet Epoque, presenting their new album.
On Friday July 8 and Saturday July 9, the artists and the audience will meet on
the island of Sveti Nikola, just opposite the main quay, where the main festival
program last year took place. On Friday, the stage by the sea will host the quartet
of the new jazz star, Miguel Zenón, and the true diva of the world jazz,
the Brazilian pianist and singer Tania Maria and her Viva Brazil Quintet.
Saturday July 9 will start with the performance of one of the most highly esteemed
trumpeters and composers of contemporary jazz – Tom Harrell Quintet will
be a genuine treat for all lovers of post-bop jazz. The festival will end, just
like last year, in the dance rhythm, with the best European funky band - Nils
Landgren Funk Unit.

The introduction to the main program of the second Valamar Jazz Festival
will be the concert in the lapidarium of the County Museum of Poreč region on July
6. For this event, Valamar jazz team joins forces with POU Poreč and their traditional
event „Jazz in Lapidarium".
After exceptionally positive reactions of Croatian and world public to the first
edition of Valamar Jazz Festival, held last year, there was no doubt that jazz in
Poreč will become a traditional event for all lovers of good music, the scent of
the sea and Mediterranean charm.
