As a matter of truth this
should be the first lesson, for this simple exercises have the purpose of
loosening and warming up the hands (especially the left one) to prepare the
actual playing. I do practise them every time to warm up.
These four should be anticipated by a preparatory exercise with fingering
1-2-3-4 / 4-3-2-1, but these seem to me more interesting.
Exercises 1, 3, 4 should be done on all fretboard. I
only have written the beginning in the first position on the first four frets (use
all four fingers, with the first finger on the first fret, the second on the
second fret, etc.). Then, understood the pattern, you should slide up a fret (frets
2,3,4,5), and so on.
I've found the second exercise in a video by John Patitucci.
It should be done only on the fifth fret keeping the position (obviously, if you
want to do it on all fretboard…!).
I advise you to use the metronome starting at 60 and increasing
gradually, improving technique and precision.
