Liliana Di Marco, stage name Lil Darling,
studied drama (1989-1995)
at the IAS school in Turin directed by Arnoldo Foà, and diction and use of
the spoken voice at the Centro D with Iginio Bonazzi (1989).
After a chance meeting with the American singer Dee Dee Bridgewater,
who encouraged her to specialize in jazz, she enrolled at Turin's Centro Jazz
under Francesca Oliveri (1989-1992)
and studied the jazz repertoire with jazz pianist Palmino Pia.
She refined her vocal technique with opera soprano Susanna Ghione and attended
various specialist courses dedicated to musical theatre performing led by Anne
Marie Speed (singing and theatre teacher at the Royal Academy of Music in London).
She has studied the finer elements of English pronunciation with various English
and American teachers. From 2002 to
2005 she specialised in the singing and spoken
voice technique EVTS (Voicecraft) with teachers Loretta Martinez
and Elisa Turlà and in 2006 followed
a master's course in jazz and improvisation with American singer Rachel Gould,
and a master's specialisation course in jazz with Gegé Telesforo,
Gegé Munari,
Dado Moroni
and Giorgio Rosciglione. In 2011
she attended the teachers' refresher courses held at Nuova Artec in Milan under
the direction of Dr Silvia Magnani.
In 2005 she became a Kinesiology Operator
and Touch for Health and Touch for Learning Instructor at the Iksen
Institute in Maderno (province of Brescia) and began to apply Kinesiology in her
teaching of singing.
During
the academic year 2008/2009
she attended the prestigious master's course in Artistic Vocology directed
by Prof. Franco Fussi at the University of Bologna; her final dissertation
entitled "A Touch for Singing" was chosen for publication in the book "La
Voce del Cantante" vol. VI edited by Prof.
Franco Fussi
and published by Omega.
In October 2010 she was invited to speak at
the first conference of the Association D.I.V.A. (Didattica Integrata Voce Artistica)
in Rome with a presentation entitled "Kinesiology and Singing".
She is a teacher of singing, diction and the use of the spoken voice at the Accademia
Musica Moderna in Turin directed by Furio Chiricoand at the
Actor's Academy Dreams Comunication.
In 1992, together with pianist Paolo Volante,
she formed the jazz sextet Lil Darling Hot Club. From
1996 to 2005
the band was a regular feature on the bill of Turin's Teatro Regio with "All
That Swing", a series of shows dedicated to the great performers and songwriters
from the world of swing and jazz including Billie Holiday,
Louis Armstrong
(New Orleans, 4 ago 1901 – 6 lug 1971),
Frank Sinatra,
Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, George
Gershwin, Duke Ellington, among many others. This was followed by a a successful
rerun at Genoa's Teatro Carlo Felice.
During the summer of 1998, "All That Swing"
embarked on a 15-date Japanese tour taking in Tokyo and Osaka.
The Lil Darling Hot Club has performed in all the major Italian jazz
clubs, including the Blue Note
in Milan, the Cantina Bentivoglio in Bologna, the AlexanderPlatz in
Rome, the Cotton Club in Ascoli Piceno, Naima in Forlì, the Louisiana
in Genoa and Turin's own Jazz Club Torino, as well as in prestigious theatres
such as the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa,
the Teatro Coccia in Novara, the G.Verdi Conservatoire in Turin, and
the Great Hall of the Polytechnic University in Turin. They have appeared
at festivals such as the Festival International de Jazz in Saint Raphaël,
France, the New Orleans Jazz Festival in Oristano, Sardinia, the Festival
Internazionale in Cagliari, Sardinia, the Barga Jazz Festival in Tuscany,
the New Orleans Jazz Festival in Pino Torinese, Turin, the Festival de
Jazz in Vitré, France and the Pavese Festival in Santo Stefano Belbo,
province of Cuneo. In Paris they have played at some of the most important jazz
clubs and hotels. Lil Darling has also guested on Italian TV host Maurizio
Costanzo's programme "Stella", appearing with guitarist Marco Roagna.
Lil Darling has recorded six standard jazz collections, including "Night
And Day" (1999), distributed in Japan by
Pony Canyon. The most recent, "Taxi Dream", produced and distributed by Electromantic
Music, was released in January 2010, and features
Lil Darling as songwriter and performer together with guitarist Marco Roagna.
