Fredar
Irukandji

Daniel Fredar - Henrik Gad - Thomas Markusson - Jon-Erik Björänge

Label: CAM Jazz Presents
CAMJ3310-2

Don't be fooled by the origins of this Scandinavian quartet. Because this group, led by pianist Daniel Fredar, goes beyond clichés and stereotypes, and only you can feel the chiaroscuro, in the notes of "Irukandji", reminders of the leading figures in northern European jazz. The quartet's language is one that's modern and unique, which cleverly mixes past and present.
Cantabile lyricism makes this latest CAMJazz discovery one of the most exciting finds currently in circulation in Europe. Fredar pens all the compositions except for Plumpa (written by drummer/accordion player Jon-Erik Björänge), finding heterogeneous and unpredictable solutions. In the pianist you can hear echoes of the great masters of modern piano-playing, however never stealing space from the highly-personal sound that favors attention to dynamics and establishes continuous dialogue with his fellow travellers. Just as Federico Scoppio writes in the liner notes "A CD with a striking emotional impact and visionary power, it follows tradition: it narrates to excite more than teach".
