Melissa
Stott was born in England in 1972 to a Singaporean-Chinese
mother and an English father. Her formal piano training began at the age of 6 and
she went on to receive a diploma when she was 18, but it was in the years prior
to this that her informal ear training started, thanks to her father, a church organist
and jazz pianist.
Melissa continued to be active in the musical environment during her years
at the University of Kent at Canterbury (UKC) where she studied Drama, and after
a period of time spent between Singapore, London, Sweden and Denmark, Melissa decided
to move to Italy and there got into the jazz scene. She went on to study with
Barry Harris, Stjepko Gut, Dennis Jeter and LaVerne Jackson.
During
her time spent in Italy, Melissa has worked with many musicians on the Italian and
international jazz scene, namely Nico Menci, David Fairburn, Greg
Burk, Jonathon Robinson, Callum Gourlay, Gerald Cleaver,
Dave Ohm, Richard Turner, Niall Marron, Karl Rooney,
Pietro Ciancaglini,
Alessandro
Minetto,
Danilo Gallo,

Giancarlo Bianchetti, Aljosa Jeric, Carlo Atti, Paolo Benedettini,

and taught at the Appennino Music Festival during the
2002, 2003 and
2005 editions. She is also Musical Director
and teaches on the new musical theatre programme of the Polisportiva Onda Blu in
the heart of the Tuscan-Emilian appennines.
"a jazz vocalist who will capture your heart" (Hal Hill, June
2005)
"one of the most interesting voices on the British jazz scene" (Bologna
da Vivere, June 2003)
"After the Afro-American atmosphere of Benny Golson's
sax, now it's the turn of one of the most acclaimed new voices on the scene…Even
if Ms. Stott is performing with the sextet as a vocalist, let's not forget that
the qualities of this musician do not stop here. First class arranger and classical
pianist, the young artiste will undertake the classic repertoire of the American
Songbooks" (il Resto del Carlino, June 2003)
