Andres
Laprida is a guitarist/composer from Argentina, who has achieved a remarkable
exposure through a wide range of assignments.
His prolific work as a performer, composer, and producer keeps earning
a highly enthusiastic response –from the audience and the critics– ever since the
great Brazilian music masters Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes,
and Toquinho introduced him to the public at a very early age.
With a very personal sound and technique, Andres has taken his music around
the world in a variety of contexts, including concert halls, jazz festivals, theatre,
music seminars, ballet, film, television, radio, and the recording industry.
In
addition to his own CD works – Latin Heart, Sortilegio,
and Songs of the Moon, he has participated on recordings with
Don Alias, Gato Barbieri, Catherine Bott,
Michael
Brecker, Randy Brecker, Eric Calvi, Anthony Cox,
DJ Spooky, Mark Egan, Julie Eigenberg, Chango Farias Gomez,
Onaje Allan Gumbs, Manolo Juarez, New London Consort Orchestra,
Agustin Pereyra Lucena, Guillermo Reuter, Phillipe Saisse,
Jaime Torres, and Victor Lewis.
As a composer/producer for TV, Andres has collaborated with the soundtracks
of Highlander, the Raven (New York, 2000)
and Euroland (RAI/Rome, 2002).
His film-scoring works include the award–winning documentary In the Absence of
Peace (New York, 1998), the
award-winning campaign Ilumina una vida (New York,
1990), and the films One Time (Buenos Aires,
1990), Minas de Ouro Preto (Rio de Janeiro,
1989), and Un sueño realizado
(Buenos Aires, 1985).
By initiative of organist/writer Pascal Ianco (DMA) and
organist Hervé Désarbre (titular of Val de Grace Church) Andres has
received three commissions from the prestigious music publisher Les Editions
du Chant du Monde: Florinda (pour grand orgue), that was recorded by
Hervé himself in his CD Dances & Organ, and recently recorded by organist
Olivier Vernet for his CD Organ Dances, Confidencias (pour
cordes) and Vanidad de las riquezas (pour orgue, bandoneon et cordes) that
have been premiered in Paris by the ensemble Stringendo conducted by Jean
Thorel, and continue being performed successfully around the world.
Andres also has written the texts and the music of the fable The Owl
and the Rose, a children's tale.
As a performer, his international tours – solo or with The Andres Laprida
Group – include his original compositions as well as a large repertoire of Brazilian-Jazz
music.
A resident of New York City, he has performed in Argentina, Brazil, Canada,
France, Italy, Norway, and the USA.
