2014 JJA Jazz Awards For Musical Achievement
La Journalist Jazz Association ha proclamato
i vincitori del JJA Award 2014. Molti i senatori che si confermano nel dominio
della musica afroamericana ma molto interessanti alcuni risultati come la Franco-Americana
Cecile McLorin Salvant vincitrice sia come nuovo artista dell'anno che come
cantante, il "filotto" tutto al femminile nei fiati con Jane Ira Bloom per
il sax soprano (in competizione con Dave Liebman e Whayne Shorter), Nicole Mitchell
per il flauto e Anat Cohen per il clarinetto. Molto interessante anche la
vittoria del pianista Craig Taborn che aveva tra le nomination Keith Jarrett
e Matthew Shipp. Sebbene alcuni nomi rimangono e sempre rimarranno indiscutibili,
perplessità si nutrono verso alcuni che non hanno più quella verve tale da poter
oggi essere ancora considerati i migliori. In particolare spiace non cedere premiato
nel sax alto nessuno tra Zenon, Mahanthappa e Berne a scapito
del "solito" Lee Konitz.
Incetta di award anche da parte di Joe Lovano e di
Maria Schneider tornata con imponenza all'attenzione della critica. Bella e
importante affermazione per la ECM come "Record Label of the Year", sebbene
in concorso con alcune etichette minori e certamente poco comparabili rispetto alla
"regalità" della label tedesca.
