Eastwind Import ... la mia terza linea di distribuzione

Artist/Band: Carlo Bernardinello featuring Lars Jansson
Name: Artist's Dreams
Cat No.: CB-01
Performed by: Carlo Bernardinello (drums)
Lars Jansson (piano)
Fabio De March (electric bass)
Alberto Mandarini (flugelhorn,trumpet)
Wally Allifranchini (flute,sax)
Rudy Migliardi (trombone)

Description: Italian drummer and composer (b. 1958) began his professional career in 1976, playing with many big bands and recording for various TV and radio broadcasts in Italy. In his long career, he has performed with numerous jazz musicians such as Gianni Basso, Franco Cerri, Antonio Farao and Mike Mainieri, to name a few. He also played with some prominent jazz fusion groups such as Kalliope, The Bridge, and Trio Electrico.

Artist's Dreams is Bernardinello's first leader album and an important collaboration with a supremely gifted Swedish pianist, Lars Jansson. This album is a sincere self-expression of a talented musician that aims to have a certain level of accessibility and appeal to a wide audience while valuing the spontaneity of the jazz language.

Bernardinello succeeded admirably in achieving the listenability without falling into the saccharine and predictable territory of "smooth jazz." It is a testament to the high level of musicianship and taste shared by all musicians involved. Jansson stands out as a great melody maker and soloist, but all other musicians -- Wally Allifranchini on sax and flute, Alberto Mandarini on trumpet, Rudy Migliardi on trombone and Fabio De March on electric bass -- are also wonderful throughout.

Thi is a wonderful self-produced CD that will appeal to fans of melodious, lyrical jazz. It is also an important CD for fans of Lars Jansson. Recommended!

Note: This CD shares five tracks with another CD of Bernardinello called Romantic.

Romantic is Bernardinello's second leader album and an important collaboration with a supremely gifted Swedish pianist, Lars Jansson. Tracks on this CD come from the same session that produced his earlier Artist's Dreams, and indeed the two CDs share five tracks (exactly the same). The difference is that Romantic focuses more on the collaboration between Bernardinello and Jansson, and includes four original compositions by Jansson performed by the core trio which are not included in Artist's dreams.

The melodies of Jansson's originals are achingly beautiful. They may be unabashedly romantic, but that romanticism and lyricism are achieved without falling into the cheap, saccharine sentimentality. The musicians are truly expressing themselves and freely improvising, and the results are gorgeous.

This is a wonderful self-produced CD that will appeal to fans of melodious, lyrical jazz. It is also an important CD for fans of Lars Jansson. Recommended!
