Belga, Jos L. Knaepen, più comunemente noto come "The Jazzman", ha cominciato a nutrire interesse per il jazz all'età di diciassette anni, dopo aver acquistato il suo primo album di Django Reinhart e Sidney Bechet nel 1961. A quel tempo aveva 18 anni ed era un regolare frequentatore del Comblain La Tour dove molti giganti del jazz si esibivano durante i loro tour europei. E' stato durante questo periodo che è cominciato il suo interesse per la fotografia.

Non avendo soldi sufficienti per acquistare l'attrezzatura professionale, ha dovuto impiegare diversi anni per risparmiare prima di potersi considerare un fotografo serio. La sua carriera professionale è cominciata all'inizio del negli anni settanta.

Il lavoro fotografico di Jos ha continuato fino ai primi anni '80 e i suoi scatti, premiati, sono stati regolarmente esibiti in tutto il Belgio. Dal 1985, la sua carriera ha avuto una pausa fino al 1990 continuando litiata esclusivamente al jazz, uno dei piuù grandi amori della sua vita.


Belgian born, Jos L. Knaepen, more commonly referred to as "The Jazzman," became interested in jazz at the age of seventeen, after purchasing his first LPs of Django Reinhart and Sidney Bechet in 1961. By the time he was 18, he was a regular attendee at the infamous Comblain La Tour where many jazz giants performed during their European tours. It was also during this period that his interest in photography began.

Not having the money to purchase sophisticated photo equipment, it took several years of dedicated saving to be able to call himself a serious photographer. His professional photographic career began in the early seventies

Jos' photographic work continued during the early 1980s and his award-winning action photography was exhibited regularly throughout Belgium. By 1985, his professional photography career took a hiatus until 1990 when he began again, this time limiting his photography strictly to jazz, one of the great loves of his life.
